"When I first looked into the program I wasn’t sure what to expect. I met and spoke to a few of the workers but I had no idea how impactful this program was going to be. Being a single parent is very hard. Yes, my daughter’s mom is involved but basically, I am a single parent since we are no longer together. When I met Jason Flowers for the first time I was impressed with how open he was to everything, He was very easy to talk to and open up to. I always felt welcomed and seen. Being a single gay dad makes life difficult. My daughter has to deal with a lot of stuff because of my lifestyle. I also have to deal with a lot of different things because of my sexual orientation. However, even with that said, being a part of the Steps to Hope program has shown me many things. The program has shown me that its ok to struggle, its ok to be different, it’s ok to ask for help if you need it, its ok to not have all the answers. Taking this program has lifted my spirits and has given me hope that I am not alone. I am not alone anymore and I have a group of people who are here to help me when I need it. I have a group of people who I can depend on to help teach me and to grow with me.
As the father of the month, I will help promote CCRC and all its various programs it has to offer. One thing I know for sure is that I will help educate future fathers by teaching them to be engaged, to succeed, to look for the positives in their lives. I will help them learn how to build a bond that will serve them throughout their lives. I will help other single fathers when they are in need if I am able to do so. I will lead by example and show other dads out there that they can succeed if they put their minds to something."
